Passiamo dal 2005 al 2006 (per una sola tappa) con un debutto fulminante quanto importante, sia dal lato musicale sia dal lato del music business: “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” degli Arctic Monkeys.

Un debutto che arrivò dopo mesi e mesi di hype generato dal passa parola, da MySpace e dall’ EP “Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys”. Un album musicalmente ancora abbastanza immaturo ma decisamente interessante, soprattutto considerata la giovanissima età dei componenti del gruppo (Alex Turner, il leader della band non aveva ancora 20 anni). Immediato, fresco e british fino al midollo, “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” incoronò gli Arctic Monkeys come la più grande delle “next big things”.

Dopo “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not”, la band ci mise solo un’anno a realizzare il secondo album (il buon “Favourite Worst Nightmare”), che li riaffermò su scala internazionale.

Quest’anno gli Arctic Monkeys sono tornati con “Humbug” (che abbiamo recensito), l’album della maturità e di una decisa svolta “americana”. Don’t believe the hype.
