Noi no: ci consoliamo riempiendo le stanze di canzoni di Natale, che non bastano mai e soprattutto contribuiscono a tenere i nervi sul chi vive, grazie a campanellini e profluvi di bontà gratuita distillata nei canti e nelle parole dei brani.
Una di quelle più divertenti e ballerine è lo swing Sleigh Ride, composta da Leroy Anderson nella versione definitiva nel 1948, registrata orchestrale l’anno successivo e infine completata con le parole nel 1950: anni d’oro per la musica di Natale, con il fiorire di canzoni a tema e arrangiamenti specifici suonati dalle grandi orchestre dell’epoca.
Sleigh Ride è stata incisa praticamente da tutti coloro che abbiano registrato almeno un album natalizio o uno special record: si contano almeno cento versioni ufficiali, da Sufjan Stevens a Ella Fitzgerald, da Diana Krall ai fun., dalla prima versione vocale conosciuta affidata al trio delle Andrews Sisters (uno dei più grandi ensemble vocali di sempre) fino a quella, famosissima e di respiro soul, che fu registrata dalle Ronettes nel 1963.
La versione delle Ronettes (famose per la storica Be My Baby) fu inclusa nel disco natalizio del 1963 A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Spector, prodotto appunto dal famoso Phil Spector con arrangiamenti che inserivano all’interno delle canzoni di Natale più famose il suo leggendario “wall of sound”, una particolare tecnica di riverbero che aggiungeva una certa atmosfera alle registrazioni.
