pubblicato 18 Marzo 2014 aggiornato 29 Agosto 2020 20:58

01. Eric Clapton – My Father’s Eyes

Sailin’ down behind the sun
Waitin’ for the Prince to come
Praying for the healing rain
To restore my soul again

Just a toe rag on the run
How did I get here?
What have I done?
When will all my hopes arise?
How will I know him
When I look in my father’s eyes?

My father’s eyes
When I looked in my father’s eyes
(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes

Then the light begins to shine
And I hear those ancient lullabies
And as I watch this seedling grow
Feel my heart start to overflow

Where do I find the words to say?
How do I teach him?
What do we play?
Bit by bit, I’ve realized
That’s when I need them
That’s when I need my father’s eyes

(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes
That’s when I need my father’s eyes
(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes
(Yeah)

Then the jagged edge appears
Through the distant clouds of tears
Now I’m like a bridge that was washed away
My foundations were made of clay

As my soul slides down to die
How could I lose him?
What did I try?
Bit by bit, I’ve realized
That he was here with me
And I looked into my father’s eyes

(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes
I looked into my father’s eyes
(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes

My father’s eyes
(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes
I looked into my father’s eyes
(Look into my father’s eyes)
My father’s eyes

(Look into my father’s eyes)
(Look into my father’s eyes)
(Yeah, yeah)
(Look into my father’s eyes)

02. Luther Vandross, “Dance With My Father”

Back when I was a child
Before Life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high
And dance with my mother and me and then

Spin me around till I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure
I was loved

If I could get another chance
Another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again

Ooh, ooh

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way I would run from her to him
He’d make me laugh just to comfort me, yeah, yeah
Then finally make me do just what my mama said

Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he
Would be gone from me

If I could steal one final glance
One final step, one final dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
‘Cause I’d love, love, love to dance with my father
Again

Sometimes I’d listen outside her door
And I’d hear how momma would cry for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me

I know I’m prayin’ for much too much
But could You send back the only man she loved
I know You don’t do it usually
But dear Lord, she’s dyin’ to dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep
And this is all I ever dream

03. Beyonce, “Daddy”

I remember, when you used to take me
On a bike ride every day, on the bayou
(Remember that? We were inseparable)
And I remember when you could do no wrong
You come home from work and I jump in your arms when I saw you
(I was so excited)
I was so happy to see you, ooh
(So happy to see you)

Because you loved me, I overcome, yeah
And I’m so proud of what you’ve become, yeah
You’ve given me such security
No matter what mistakes I make, you’re there for me

You cure my disappointments
And you heal my pain
You understood my biz and you protected me
I treasure every year in place a comemory

And that’s why, I want my unborn son
To be like, my daddy
I want my husband to be like, my daddy
There is no one else like, my daddy
And I thank you for lovin’ me

Daddy daddy, daddy daddy
Daddy daddy, daddy daddy
Daddy daddy, daddy daddy
Daddy daddy, daddy daddy

I still remember the expression on your face
When you found out I’d been on a date and had a boyfriend
(My first boyfriend, you shoulda seen your face)
I still remember, I called you cryin’
‘Cuz of my tattoo, coulda said, “Beyonce, I told ya so”
Instead you said you’d get one too
(You and my momma said ya’ll get one just like mine)

Words can’t express my boundless gratitude for you
I appreciate what you do, ohh
You’ve given me tight security
No matter what mistakes I know, you’re there for me

You killed my disappointments and you heal my pain
You understood by biz and you protected me
I treasure every extraordinary memory, that’s why

My unborn son to be like, my daddy
I want my husband to be like, my daddy
There is no one else like, my daddy
And I thank you for lovin’ me

Even if my man broke my heart today
No matter how much pain I’m in, I will be okay
‘Cause I got a man in my life that can’t be replaced
For this love is unconditional, it won’t go away

I know I’m lucky, know it ain’t easy
For men who take care of their responsibilities
Love is overwhelming, Lord why did you pick me?
Can’t stop my tears from falling, I love you so much daddy

([Inaudible] to be like my daddy)
(Thank you, you’ve done so much for me, I love you, daddy)
([Inaudible] to be like my daddy)
I get so emotional daddy, every time I think of you
(There is no one else like my daddy)
I get so emotional daddy, every time I think of you
(I thank you)
There is no one else like my daddy
(There is no one else like my daddy)
No one else replace my daddy

04. Asher Roth & Miguel, “His Dream”

[Verse 1: Asher Roth]
He leans back from his desk
Rubs the back of his neck, the stress takes effect
Grips the bridge of his noise
Squints while he’s showing emotion he normally won’t
At 56, he re-evaluates
Possibly regretting some decisions that he’s made
Black is turning grey, patches of his age
Reflecting from the glasses of a pass of every page
Passionately Dave reads, reading on occasion
Dreaming of the day when he can do the same thing
He’s always wanted to write, that’s all he’s wanted in life
With two daughters, a son and a remarkable wife
He’s in a bind, he has to provide
A family is relying on him merely to survive
His father died at 56
So he’s well aware how vital a father figure is
How big of a responsibility it is
To be a good husband and care for your kids
Never miss an event, helping them with their homework
Discipline to prevent things when they’re older
His only son is only 21
And focus as a poet has only just begun
Papa isn’t dumb, he understands what this means
His dream is my dream, my dream is his dream

[Hook: Miguel]
I close my eyes and I can see (His dream)
The sacrifices he made for me (His dream)
Put it aside for his family (His dream)
Yeah, so I’mma keep it alive, Yeah

[Verse 2: Asher Roth]
And so he targeted to be the dream guardian
Guarding it from anything and anyone whose harming it
But in his heart, he knows the hardest thing about it is
Giving up on his dream to be all about his kids
As he kisses the lips of the misses
For 24 years going on the 25th
He thinks to himself, this alone is a wealth
It’s greater than what’s bought and then sold on the shelf
Sometimes a dream is all that we have
We have to continue to dream
Cause once it is lost amongst other thoughts
Then what really are we, what are we?

[Hook]

[Verse 3: Asher Roth]
So he sits back at his desk
Cracking his knuckles and back of his neck
Faxing a paper displaying his name
On another application explaining the main
Things they should know but the things that they don’t
And over the phone he could never expose
Are the things that distinguish him as an adult
The role that he chose, the role in his home
And at home, he’s a leader, a father
He’ll prove it by using his son and his daughters
In their life, he’ll be playing the part of
The one who inspires, the one we admire
His only son is only 21
And focus as a poet has only just begun
Papa isn’t dumb, he understands what this means
His dream is my dream, my dream is his dream

05. Miley & Billy Ray Cyrus, “I Learned From You”

[Miley]
Ooooo
Yeah
I didn’t wanna listen to what you were sayin’
I thought that I knew all I need to know
I didn’t realize that somewhere inside me
I knew you were right but I couldn’t say so

I can take care of myself, yeah, you taught me well

[Chorus: (Miley)]
I learned from you that I do not crumble
I learned that strength is something you choose
All of the reasons to keep on believin’
There’s no question, that’s a lesson, that I learned from you

[Billy Ray]
We always don’t agree on
What is the best way
To get to the place that we’re going from here
But I can really trust you, and give you the distance,
to make your decisions without any fear

[Both]
I’m grateful for all of the times
You opened my eyes

[Chorus: (Both)]
I learned from you that I do not crumble
I learned that strength is something you choose
All of the reasons to keep on believin’,
There’s no question, that’s a lesson
I learned from you

[Both]
You taught me to stand on my own

[Miley] and I thank you for that

[Both]
You saved me, you made me,
and now that I’m looking back

[Miley] I can say

[Both] woooaaahhhh!

[Miley] Hmmmm… Hmmmm… Yeah!

[Both]
I learned from you that

[Miley] I learned from you

[Both]
I do not crumble
I learned that strength is something you choose

[Miley] something you choose

[Both]
All of the reasons to keep on believin’,

[Miley] keep on believin’

There’s no question, that’s a lesson that I learned from you

[Miley]
Woooaaahhhh!
I learned from yoooouuu

I learned that strength is something you choose
[Billy Ray] something you choose

[Both]
All of the reasons to keep on believin’,
There’s no question, that’s a lesson that I learned from you

[Miley] yeah!

[Both]
I learned from you

06. Tori Amos, “Winter”

Snow can wait, I forgot my mittens.
Wipe my nose, get my new boots on.
I get a little warm in my heart when I think of winter.
I put my hand in my father’s glove.
I run off where the drifts get deeper.
Sleeping Beauty trips me with a frown. I hear a voice,
“You must learn to stand up for yourself ‘cause I can’t always be around.”

He says, when you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
‘Cause things are gonna change so fast.
All the white horses are still in bed.
I tell you that I’ll always want you near.
You say that things change? my dear.

Boys get discovered as winter melts.
Flowers competing for the sun.
Years go by and I’m here still waiting,
Withering where some snowman was.
Mirror, mirror where’s the crystal palace?
But I only can see myself.
Skating around the truth who I am,
But I know, dad, the ice is getting thin.

When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
‘Cause things are gonna change so fast.
All the white horses are still in bed.
I tell you that I’ll always want you near.
You say that things change? my dear.

Hair is gray and the fires are burning.
So many dreams on the shelf.
You say, I wanted you to be proud of me.
I always wanted that myself.

When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
‘Cause things are gonna change so fast.
All the white horses have gone ahead.
I tell you that I’ll always want you near.
You say that things change? my dear.
Never change, all the white horses aha, mmm…

07. Sade, “Babyfather”

We were waiting for the bus
No one much around but us
Then I see this young boy
Caught a look at me

I’m stunned in a daze
He had the whole street set ablaze
It’s only love they say
Makes you feel this way

She liked his eyes, she wanted more
The baby gonna have your smile for sure
He saw a lovely girl
Smelling sweet and soapy like fresh air
She saw him looking, acted like she didn’t care

That’s how we knew
And so love grew a flower
A flower that is you

Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame

Even to the angels it may sound like a lie
For you, child
He has the troops and extra backup standing by

For you, child
For you, he’s the best he can be
For you, child
For you, he’s the best he can be

Oh, child don’t you know?
Your daddy love come
With a lifetime guarantee

Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Yeah, daddy loves you child
Your daddy knows you’re a flame, oh
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Daddy love you, yeah

It’s only you he’ll say
Made the young boy hungry
For the man he is today
It’s only love, love, love, love
Can make you feel this way

Your daddy knows you’re a flame, oh
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Yeah, daddy loves you child
Oh, your daddy knows you’re a flame
Oh, your daddy knows you’re a flame

Your daddy love come
With a lifetime guarantee

Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Daddy loves you, yeah
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Can I tell you that your daddy love you?

Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame

Oh child, don’t you know?
Your daddy love come
With a lifetime guarantee

Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Your daddy knows you’re a flame
Daddy love you, yeah

08. Cat Stevens – Father & Son

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it’s not easy,
To be calm when you’ve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you’ve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It’s always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there’s a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy.
(Son– Away Away Away, I know I have to
Make this decision alone – no)
Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It’s hard, but it’s harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I’d agree, but it’s them They know not me.
Now there’s a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
(Father– Stay Stay Stay, Why must you go and
Make this decision alone?)

09. George Michael, Father Figure

That’s all I wanted
Something special something sacred –
In your eyes
For just one moment
To be bold and naked
At your side
Sometimes I think that you’ll never
Understand me
Maybe this time is forever…
Say it can be

That’s all you wanted
Something special, someone sacred –
In your life
Just for one moment
To be warm and naked
At my side

Sometimes I think that you’ll never
Understand me
But something tells me together
We’ll be happy

*Refrain*
(Baby)
I will be your father figure
(Oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I’d love to)
I will be your preacher teacher
(Be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind
(It would make me)
I will be your father figure
(Very happy)
I have had enough of crime
(Please let me)
(So I am gonna love you)
I will be the one who loves you –
‘Til the end of time

That’s all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That’s all I wanted
Just to see my baby’s
Blue eyed shine
This time I think that my lover
Understands me
If we have faith in each other
Then we can be strong

(Baby)
I will be your father figure
(Oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I’d love to)
I will be your preacher teacher
(Be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind
(It would make me)
I will be your father figure
(Very happy)
I have had enough of crime
(Please let me)
(So I am gonna love you)
I will be the one who loves you –
‘Til the end of time

If you are the desert
I’ll be the sea
If you ever hunger –
Hunger for me
Whatever you ask for
That’s what I’ll be…

So when you remember
The ones who have lied
Who said that they cared
But then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling
Don’t think of me
Because all I ever wanted
It’s in your eyes baby, baby
And love can’t lie, no…
(Greet me with the eyes of a child)
My love is always telling me so…
(Heaven is a kiss and a smile)
Just hold on, hold on
I won’t let you go, my baby

(Baby)
I will be your father figure
(Oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I’d love to)
I will be your preacher teacher
(Be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind
(It would make me)
I will be your father figure
(Very happy)
I have had enough of crime
(Please let me)
(So I am gonna love you)
I will be the one who loves you –
‘Til the end of time

10. Barbra Streisand, Papa Can You Hear me?

God, our Heavenly Father
Oh, God and my father
Who is also in heaven

May the light of this flickering candle
Illuminate the night the way
Your spirit illuminates my soul

Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you see me?
Papa, can you find me in the night?

Papa, are you near me?
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you help me, not be frightened?

Looking at the skies I seem to see a million eyes
Which ones are yours?
Where are you now that yesterday
Has waved good-bye and closed its doors?

The night is so much darker
The wind is so much colder
The world I see is so much bigger
Now that I’m alone

Papa, please forgive me
Try to understand me
Papa, don’t you know I had no choice?

Can you hear me praying?
Anything I’m saying?
Even though the night
Is filled with voices

I remember everything you taught me
Every book I’ve ever read
Can all the words in all the books
Help me to face what lies ahead?

The trees are so much taller
And I feel so much smaller
The moon is twice as lonely
And the stars are half as bright

Papa, how I love you
Papa, how I need you
Papa, how I miss you
Kissing me goodnight
