Gli Usa sono sconvolti dalla notizia della morte di Mindy McCready, cantante country folk americana nata nel 1975. Artisticamente è attiva dal 1995 e ha registrato cinque album in studio negli anni della sua carriera. Ben dodici singoli sono entrati nella classifica Billboard nel genere country. Ha venduto più di tre milioni di copie secondo i dati RIIA (Recording Industry Association of America). Il suo disco più venduto è “Ten thousand angels”
A soli 37 anni, in base alla prime ricostruzioni, la donna si sarebbe tolta la vita sulla veranda con un colpo di fucile nella sua casa di Heber Springs, in Arkansas. Nel 2004 è stata arrestata per prescrizione false di droghe e aveva due figli piccoli. Non è la prima volta che lei tenta il suicidio nel corso della sua vita, come racconta il suo ex compagno.
Lui è Billy McKnight, padre del figlio Zelder, di sei anni, avuto con la cantante. In una recentissima intervista dopo la notizia della sua morte, ecco il suo commento:
“Per quanto possa essere triste, per me non e’ affatto uno shock. Lei combatteva contro i demoni da molto tempo. Io stavo con lei quando per due volte ha tentato il suicidio, perciò sapevo che ne era capace”
